I vividly remember the time in my life when I felt like I had lost my sense of purpose. I wanted to do something that I could be passionate about, something that would give me a reason to get out of bed every day. But as time passed, I felt like I was just going through the motions, and it was taking a toll on me.

To make matters worse, I had gained a substantial amount of weight for the first time in my life. It was a vicious cycle - the more I felt lost and hopeless, the more I turned to food for comfort. I felt like I was in a dark place, with no light at the end of the tunnel.

I became interested and then fascinated in the science of how the body works, how to adequately provide my body with proper nutrition and the power of physical activity. To my surprise, my energy increased and my view of life started to change, for the better.

My passion for health and wellness led me to become a certified health coach through The Institute for Integrative Nutrition and then, a certified personal trainer through the World Instructor Training Program (WITS).

But my thirst for knowledge didn't stop there. I decided that I wanted to become a medical expert on nutrition and started studying Nutritional Science. I obtained my Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree with a Dietetic Internship. It wasn't easy, but getting these degrees was a huge accomplishment that gave me the emotional power to overcome my fears and make positive changes in my life and ultimately, others. 

For me, those positive changes meant finding non-medication based solutions for anxiety and depression. I truly believe that gaining control of the food I ate and my consistent exercise routine is what allowed me to see myself in a new way.

One of the biggest lessons I learned is that I can accomplish anything I put my mind to when I prioritize my health. Valerie helped me change my whole attitude about food. So many of my failed diet attempts focused on what I could NOT eat. The first word was always NO. Valerie understands the value of YES. She never said, "you can't eat that." Her focus is on balance. "You can eat that," she would tell me, "but you also need to have some of this." She also helped me focus on how much better I felt when I put good food in proper portions into my body. By focusing on the positive aspects of healthful eating, I find I now crave the things that make my whole body feel good. The weight has stayed off. I have more energy and vitality. And I don't ever feel like I am "dieting".
